31% of Agents Want To Switch Brokerages: Here’s How To Recruit Them

 

Hey guys, there’s an interesting new study from 1000Watt. They studied 600 agents and asked them several questions about where they thought they were in their career.

A shocking number: 31% of these agents said they were actively considering making a real estate brokerage change—switching offices.

That number jumped to 53% for agents under the age of 35.

So when you hear that as a brokerage owner or a team leader, what should that represent to you? What I think it should represent is opportunity.

If you look at your entire market—maybe you have a thousand agents, maybe ten thousand—think about one-third of them are actively considering making a change, and 53% of that younger generation are actively considering it. Then the question becomes: What can you do about this opportunity? How can you get ahead of it?

The way you get ahead of it is by being intentional with your recruiting strategy—getting out there, having conversations, building relationships, and really showing your value proposition.

Here’s the biggest challenge many of you have: you don’t have a clear value proposition. When someone says, “Why should I come work for you?” you default to, “Well, I’ve got the best commission plan in town.”

Do you? Because I guarantee you, as soon as you have that, someone’s going to beat you. If you’re at a dollar, someone will come in at fifty cents. It doesn’t matter.

Your whole value prop can’t be centered on commissions.

It has to be centered on other things—and the number one thing is helping agents close more transactions.

It’s about transaction count more than anything else.

You can’t spend a commission plan. I wish we could; that would make our lives easier.

So come up with a great value proposition. I’m going to challenge you to come up with five reasons someone should come work for you (other than your commission plan).

When I talk to brokers across the country and ask that simple question, 99% of them are completely stumped. And if you can’t answer that, neither can anyone else in your market.

That’s the first thing you must figure out: What is your value prop?
